Merkel extends restrictions because of COVID-19

German Chancellor Angela Merkel wants to extend the restrictive measures imposed in the country because of the situation with the coronavirus, reported the tabloid Bild, referring to the draft document, which the Chancellor of Germany and regional heads will discuss on Monday.

It is reported that the restrictions will remain in force in April, but the document does not give any specific dates. In addition, companies in Germany will be obliged to provide employees with two rapid tests for coronavirus every week. The federal government will approve relevant regulations by the end of March, the document said.

The document also notes that the relaxation of restrictions “depends largely on consistent testing of citizens”.

Earlier at the meeting of region heads with Chancellor Angela Merkel it was decided to prolong the lockdown introduced in FRG on November 2 last year tentatively till March 28.
