Food and Drug Administration to Make Decision
Pfizer and BioNTech have asked the U.S. regulator to approve the use of their COVID-19 vaccine for 12- to 15-year-olds.
The vaccine is currently approved in the U.S. for use in 16-year-olds. According to Pfizer and BioNTec, clinical trials have proven that the vaccine is safe and effective for 12-15 year olds.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) must make the appropriate decision. Janet Woodcock, the current head of the FDA, wrote on Twitter that the FDA would study the request “as quickly as possible,” but could not predict how long the process would take.
Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are also testing their vaccines for 12- to 18-year-olds.
