Donald Trump continues to make border wall progress claims in the media but they are all false and can easily be fact-checked.
“Large sections of WALL have already been built with much more either under construction or ready to go,” Trump tweeted on Thursday.
The current border wall progress status
No new miles of border wall or barriers have been built since Trump took office.
Trump is claiming that repairs of the existing fence between the U.S. Mexico, are part of the new wall that he promised. This is a lie but his supporters don’t seem to care about facts.
Ann Coulter is Donald Trump’s biggest supper of the border wall and she tweeted that no new wall has been built.
However, Congress did give President Trump 1.6 billion for his “border wall” but there were some strings attached, only a small portion of that money can be spent on border barrier planning and design.
The omnibus spending bill Trump signed on March 23rd that he threatened to veto because it didn’t fully fund his border wall, state that designated funds “shall only be available for operationally effective designs deployed as of the date of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2017” (May 5, 2017), “such as currently deployed steel bollard designs, that prioritize agent safety.”
Politifact explains it’s specific uses:
• $251 million for approximately 14 miles of secondary fencing along the southwest border in the San Diego sector;
• $445 million for 25 miles of primary pedestrian levee fencing along the southwest border in the Rio Grande Valley Sector;
• $196 million for primary pedestrian fencing along the southwest border in the Rio Grande Valley Sector;
• $445 million for replacement of existing primary pedestrian fencing along the southwest border;
• $38 million for border barrier planning and design; and
• $196 million for acquisition and deployment of border security technology
Trump tweeted on Thursday morning that Republicans are “wasting their time” trying to persuade Democrats to fund the “DESPERATELY needed WALL.”
” I’ve got you covered,” Trump said. “Wall is already being built, I don’t expect much help!”
This tweet can be further from the truth and it’s unimaginable how his supporters believe these lies from the president.
During a White House press event that same day, Trump claimed that he’s building the wall right now, and in the next sentence he said that he will not accept any border security funding deal from Congress that doesn’t include money for the border wall.
If the wall is already being built, why shutdown the Government? Wouldn’t it be smart to just move on to other issues and let the construction continue?
Border wall prototypes
Remember those 8 border wall prototypes Trump had commissioned that are currently on display two miles easy of Otay Mesa Port of Entry?
There are no new walls currently built based on those prototypes. You can see these see prototypes for free 24/7 but only from the Mexican side of the border.
Border wall photos
These images of bollard fencing Trump shared back in March claiming that they were part of new border wall construction was misleading.
Border Patrol agents emphasized that plans for this replacement project in downtown Calexico, started in 2009.
“First and foremost, this isn’t Trump’s wall,” Border Patrol’s El Centro Sector spokesman Jonathan Pacheco told reporters.
“This isn’t the infrastructure that Trump is trying to bring in…. This new wall replacement has absolutely nothing to do with the prototypes that were shown over in the San Diego area.”
The majority of Americans are not believing the misleading statements Trump and his administration makes about the border wall being built because the poll numbers show it.
No new wall is currently being built and the border wall progress is still at zero. During the campaign, Trump promised that Mexico would pay for the wall, he denies it now but the facts say otherwise.
The longest shutdown in history came under the Trump administration because of a promise Trump is trying to keep but now he wants the American taxpayer to foot the bill.
Republicans campaigned on building the border wall during the 2018 midterm elections but they lost the house. If the majority of Americans wanted a wall on the southern border, shouldn’t the GOP still control the House?
Government has been funded until February 15th, and it seems like we are headed for another shut down if Democrats don’t give Trump his wall.
