James Mattis is on his way out 2 months earlier than planned and the new acting secretary of defense has no military or foreign policy experience.

Deputy Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan will take command until Donald Trump names a new nominee to be his defense secretary.
Shanahan will be charged fulfilling the President’s orders of withdrawing US troops from Syria and Afghanistan an official told CNN on Monday.
Patrick Shanahan, a Washington state native, was a former executive at Boeing that worked for the major defense contractor for more than 3 decades.
John McCain also raised serious concerns about Shanahan back in June of 2017 during his hearing.
“I have to have confidence that the fox is not going to secretary back into the henhouse,” McCain said.
ProPublica has released the acting Secretary of Defense financial disclosures. It’s a very long list.
Donald Trump already has the highest first-year departures in his administration than any other President. With a 34% turnover rate, how long do you think Patrick Shanahan is going to last?
