Republican Rep. Clay Higgins compared the apprehensions of illegal immigrants along the southern border to the D-Day invasion.
During the Homeland Security Committee hearing with Kirstjen Nielson on border security, the Republican representative from Louisiana compared the June 1944 Allied invasion of Western Europe to the threat of illegal immigration.
“73,000 American troops landed in the D-Day invasion. We have 76,103, according to my numbers, apprehensions along the southern border last month,” Higgins said.
“We have D-Day every month on our southern border.”
Nielsen testified on Wednesday that the current border situation constitutes a humanitarian crisis and an emergency.
Nielsen also defends Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency to build a border wall.
