According to Wall Street Journal, the House Judiciary Committee believes that it has evidence to support the report from The New York Times that Trump asked former acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker to put his ally, Geoffrey Berman in charge of an investigation into his ex-lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen.
The WSJ is citing one person familiar with the matter and made note that the House Committee is investigating weather Whitaker committed perjury during his testimony before the panel earlier in February.
The Times reported last week that Trump asked Whitaker if his top ally that in the Southern District of New York can un-recuse himself and could be put in charge of the widening investigation.
After the Times report, Trump attacked the Times on Twitter called them the “true ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!”
Michael Cohen is set to testify this week before the House Oversight Committee.
