Donald Trump’s border wall will not be built and let me tell you why.
Trump began his Presidential campaign riding down those golden escalators in Trump Tower and announced that he was going to run for President while calling Mexicans drug dealers, criminals and rapists.
Conservatives fell in-love with Trump long before this when he was going after President Obama’s birth certificate. The level of support Trump saw from this was his golden ticket.
Many people claimed that the birther movement started with Hillary Clinton but that’s a story for another article. What I’m saying is Trump’s and his supporters idea of the wall is solely based on hate and bigotry.
Why does Trump want to build a wall?
Ever since Trump came down those escalators he was obsessed about illegal immigration. Trump’s pro wall argument is based on the idea that illegal immigration is the reason for so much crime in America, in fact, studies suggest the opposite. Currently, more undocumented immigrants are leaving American than trying to enter.
Donald Trump thinks that building a wall will keep undocumented immigrants out but that’s not entirely true. The wall has become a major rallying tool for Trump and his supporters, the majority of it is built on bigotry and hate for our southern friends in Mexico.
Conservatives believe that illegal immigrants:
- Take jobs away from everyday Americans
- Abuse public assistance health-care programs.
- Cause the majority of major crimes.
- Changing the demographics of The United States.
President Trump tapped into the most deepest fears of his base and continues to campaign on keeping illegals out by building a 30ft concrete wall along the border.
Undocumented Truth about illegal immigrants.
Here is some data from 2018 that I added to this infographic from the Cato Institute that will give you more information about undocumented immigrants.
Private land along the border
Another reason is that the federal government doesn’t own more than two-thirds of land on the southern border. Land seizures have already begun when $1.6 billion in funding was already approved back in March for 65 miles of fencing in the Rio Grande Valley.
But this is now becoming problematic because landowners want more money and some of the deeds go back to Spanish land grants and it’s very hard to figure out who owns the land.
The wall won’t stop immigrants that overstayed their visas.
Visa overstayers are persons who have entered the united states legally for a permitted about of time but never leave.
Homeland Security has said more than 600,000 foreigners overstayed their visas in 2017 alone. How would the wall fix that problem?
Data from DHS shows that illegal immigration across the southern border is at historic lows. A little more than 300,000 immigrants were caught crossing in 2017. That’s down from almost 1.6 million since the year 2000.
Donald Trump’s border wall cost
Despite these facts, the Trump administration is primarily focusing on fulfilling his campaign promise to build the border wall. He also promised that Mexico would pay for it.
The cost of the border wall was estimated to be around $25 billion dollars but the maintenance costs could be as much as $48 billion dollars over a few years.
This all works out to cost $23 million per mile. The entire southern border is around 2000 miles long.
Who is paying for the wall?
We heard Donald Trump say this over and over at his rallies. His supporters even chanted it along with him. It’s amazing how all of a sudden some Republicans like Linsday Graham are now admitting that these promises were only “Metaphors.”
Countries with border walls
Macedonia, Malaysia, Hungary, China, India and many more are all countries with border walls or a barrier fence. There are 77 border fences or barriers in total that have been erected since World War II.
Walls have said to be public relation exercises where governments demonstrate that they are actually doing something, but they only end up creating more problems.
Government shutdown over the wall.
Democrats were elected to C
If the Republican controlled House and Senate wouldn’t give Trump funds for his wall, what makes people think Democrats will do it?
Trump should be held accountable for his promises that Mexico would pay for it and not the American people. I called himself the “Great Negotiator,” now it seems as if the only negotiation he can do is bully people and shut down the government when he doesn’t get what he wants.
Now that Mexico told him they won’t pay for his *expletive* wall, he wants to hold the American people hostage to fulfill his promise.
I heard the GoFundMe for the wall that Republicans are donating to is now up to 18 million. I hope they know none of those funds can be used to build the wall.
Like Ann Coulter said, Trump is going to fold as usual, I just hope is supporters are prepared for it.
