BuzzfeedNews is reporting that President Donald Trump directed his ex-lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about the Trump Tower project in Moscow.
“Two sources have told BuzzFeed News that Cohen also told the special counsel that after the election, the president personally instructed him to lie — by claiming that negotiations ended months earlier than they actually did — in order to obscure Trump’s involvement,” BuzzfeedNews reports.
Cohen is scheduled to testify publicly to Congress on February 7th although some reports today said he’s reconsidering.
“There is genuine fear and it has caused Michael Cohen to consider whether he should go forward or not, and he has not made a final decision,” Cohen’s attorney, Larry Davis said.
Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to lying about the Trump Tower deal to the Senate and House intelligence committees.
Cohen admitted that the discussions about Trump Tower Moscow went on for at least six months after he told Congress they had ended.
Mr. Cohen also acknowledged that illegal payments were made at the direction of his client Donald Trump and plead guilty to breaking campaign finance laws and other charges.
“I participated in this conduct, which on my part took place in Manhattan, for the principal purpose of influencing the election,” Cohen told a judge in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan.
The Buzzfeed report also says “Special counsel Robert Mueller noted that Cohen’s false claim” about the Trump Tower project that ended in January and was attempting to “minimize links between the Moscow Project and Individual 1”
We know Individual 1 is President Donald Trump.
Robert Mueller is said to be very close in releasing his report. It’s also reported that the current president’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, told Vanity Fair that he is worried about the report from Mueller and that “Trump is very hard to deal with.”
