U.S. Secretary of State pointed to the disagreement between Washington and Berlin over Nord Stream 2

Blinken warned German counterpart of possible sanctions against project participants

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Wednesday that the U.S. and Germany have a serious disagreement over the Nord Stream 2 project.

According to Blinken, during a conversation with his German counterpart, Heiko Maas, he warned that the U.S. could impose sanctions on companies involved in building the pipeline under the Baltic Sea.

Blinken declined to provide further details, but noted that the United States is closely monitoring the construction of the pipeline, which is almost complete.
