Nokia signs patent agreement with Samsung Electronics

Nokia has a deal with Samsung and Nokia Electronics to license more video standards, Nokia said on Thursday.

Samsung and Nokia made royalties through the agreement. After that, no deal was signed between them.

Nokia’s patent portfolio consists of around 20,000 patent families, including over 3,500 declared essential to 5G.

Samsung and Ericsson recently signed a deal that will enable them to sell products with very short notice. A dispute could arise over the royalty payments and the technical licenses of each company.

Since Samsung had claimed to have infringed on them and not patented 4G and next generation wireless mobile communication, the U.S. International Trade Commission has opened an investigation of Ericsson. However, when it announced it would not conduct an inquiry, Ericsson said it would close the investigation.
