Although after the rise of Fortnite it may seem as if the gaming community has completely forgotten about the existence of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, this is not the case. The “battle royale” that popularized the whole genre is still more than alive, especially on smartphones. At least that’s what analysts are saying.
According to analytics firm Sensor Tower, PUBG Mobile has surpassed the $5.1 billion mark in revenue since its release. Most of all, iOS users from China invested in the project: they brought the game an impressive $2.8 billion. Curiously, about the same amount Mobile has earned in 2020 ($ 2.7 billion) – analysts point out that the pandemic COVID-19 had a positive effect on the performance of the militant.
Recall, the original PUBG was released on PC in 2017 and instantly popularized the then very new genre of “battle royale”. The mobile version of the action game was released in February 2018 and quickly found its audience – in three years PUBG Mobile was downloaded more than a billion times.
